This study investigated television as an instrument for educational advancement (A case study of Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria. The main purpose of this research work was to check if television is throughly an instrument for educational advancement, in order to ascertain its strengths and weaknesses while the specific purposes are: to ascertain and critically examine how students are benefitting from watching television programmes, to determine the extent to which television is contributing to educational advancement, to determine the types of television programmes that should be transmitted on television to suggest ways of improving educational system through television programmes Besides, the researcher reviewed literature related to the subject matter. The research questions and significances of the study were examined and it meet up with the purposes of the study. Furthermore, two theories were analyzed to make the work to make it current. The researcher specified the requirements for effective functioning of television as an instrument for educational advancement. The researcher collected primary data through questionnaire from 200 respondents randomly selected from the citizens of Enugu East Local Government indigenes. The resulting data were presented in tabular form and later analyzed using Chi-Square statistics. The findings clearly showed that television has done much in educational advancement in the study area. The study also revealed that there should be some programmes that should not be displayed on television because of under aged persons. Lastly, the research also revelead that television is one of the best tools for effective academic performance.
