Abstract

The focus of this seminar is on the extent of the use of audiovisual materials in teaching and learning of Business Education among Secondary schools in Enugu East Local Government Area, Enugu state, Nigeria. The study investigated on government owned secondary school in the Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, Education is one of the most important needs for the well-being of individual and that of the society. Thus, education is a powerful instrument of social, political, and economic progress, without which neither an individual nor a society can attain professional growth. Kirschner and Weperies (2003) maintained that Audio visual could make the school more efficient and productive, by organizing a variety of tools to enhance and facilitate teachers’ professional activities. The effective use of audiovisual materials in teaching and learning of Business Education can make the subject practical, interesting and enjoyable. Audiovisual can be defined as instruction where particular attention is paid to the audio and visual presentation of the materials, with the goal of improving the comprehension and retention of students. Students from Senior Secondary 1 to 3 were the respondents of this investigation. However, the sample size of this study is 215 students which represent 9.56% of the population of the students’ population, were randomly selected. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data. The study investigated the audiovisual materials is provided for the students, the extent of the students’ use of the extent of the use of audiovisual materials in teaching and learning of Business Education among Secondary schools, the challenges facing learning of Business Education as well as strategies to enhance learning of Business Education to ensure the academic achievement of secondary school students. From the findings of the seminar, the researcher discovered that audiovisual materials are available in a low extent in most schools in Enugu East local government area, as a result of that, Business Education concepts are seen as difficult subject for students to understand which affects the performance of students in Business Education It therefore recommends of this study is Government / Ministry of Education should provide audiovisual materials for all the public schools in Enugu East Local Government Area in Enugu State, Teachers should make proper use of audiovisual materials in teaching and learning of Business Education among other recommendations. With this, the educational sector of Nigeria stands to benefit immensely and not only that, there will be a reduction in emigration of Nigeria students as well as increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Nigeria.
