DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (A CASE STUDY OF MINISTRY OF WORKS ENUGU)

Project topic for Computer Science department.

Abstract

This project is to Design and Implement a computer based project management system for the ministry of works Enugu. The study also evaluates challenges of the existing project management system of the ministry of works’ information manual record keeping. In view of the problems encountered in the existing system, the main aim of the system is to handle and manage contracts in the ministry. The researcher was motivated to write on this topic as a result of the problems (mistakes, delays, missing files etc) associated with collecting project’s accurate data, keeping the collected data, retrieving the data when needed, the need arose to develop software that would be able to solve these problems. The research methodology adapted in this work is waterfall model. The software was developed with HTML, CSS, and PHP MYSQL programming languages. The researcher used primary and secondary sources for data collection. The primary sources includes face to face interview conducted in my case study and other personal observation. The secondary sources include material such as Books, magazine and journals from the national and state library in Enugu state, In summary, the emergence of information technology has enhanced ministry of works task, increasing the level of productivity and accuracy of results compared with those obtained using the manual method, with the aid of the software developed in this project, computer based attendance scheme for project can easily be stored and retrieved,  the software can handle all aspect of database processing including storage, retrieval, editing, printing etc, the computer based attendance scheme for project was designed with the language, Xampp Application Suite. The system was partitioned into modules. These include the main menu, Project Registration form, and administration form. Each of these modules provides specific functions and features that when combined together, becomes an outstanding computer based attendance scheme for project. Each of the modules uses an access service based database. Separate table was developed in each database for each module and the data entered in the table was assigned to the database through specific linking dataset, the system has been successfully tested and confirmed fit for use.
