1.1 Background of the Study
Web based admission process allows institutions to receive applications through the web and candidates need not collect physical forms. Candidates are required to visit the admission website of the institution. All eligibility criteria, number of seats, selection criteria etc are mentioned in the website. Candidates are required to fill in the online admission form and submit it online. On successful submission of the application form, the candidate receives a unique form number against which he/she is required to make the payment for the application form. Merit list of eligible candidates is generated and published on the institution website. Web based admission process can also be programmed to electronically notify candidates about the outcome of the admission process. This saves a lot of time and effort on the part of the institution as well as the candidates. Moreover, the merit list of admitted students is generated automatically by the system thereby, ruling out any chance of foul play. Therefore, only the deserving candidates get admission to the institution.
A web site is a group of web pages created by a person or organization; it contains information about the person or the organization.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
In recent times, there had been problems of admission processes which ranges from pride on the part of the admission personnel in which they engage in admitting their relations or whoever that gives them a huge amount of money to the stress encountered by the admitting personnel and the admission seeking candidate source required. Another problem is the expenditure involved both on the part of the candidate and the institution in question. The already admitted students on their own part, encounters a lot of stress while checking their admission result and the institution also encounter a lot of problem in processing, printing and pasting of admission lists. Other problems include resource wastage (i.e, human, materials and financial resources.)Sometimes, as a result of typographical error, inadequate printing impression, tearing of pasted result (by candidates who first checked their admission results), leads to making some students not to see their names in the admission list. This will make them to start going to the HOD and students affairs admission department for help.
The motivation for the adoption of this research work is because of the manual method of admitting student into the institution. It is characterized by delay in the publishing of admission list and commencement of academic session.
1.4 Aims and Objectives
This project is aimed mostly on the design and implementation of online students admission system.
The specific objectives are.
1.5 Significance of the Study
The web based admission process integrates technology with the administrative/education process and is advantageous for both the institution and the students alike. The followings will be achieved as the benefits of operating the new system:
1.6 Organization of Work
This work is segmented into five chapters; chapter one talks about the introduction of the project work, chapter two discusses the literature reviews, chapter three states clearly the research methodology while chapter four explains the implementation and evaluation of the new system. Finally, chapter five gives the discussion and conclusions.
